Peace with God is an astonishing reality. This Christian virtue brings inner serenity, calming the soul and soothing the heart.
Without believing in Christ, God’s peace remains elusive.
Divine Peace
It’s Jesus who delivers divine peace. When Christ walked on the earth, He shared with His Disciples about this harmony.
Christ said:
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27, NIV
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33, NKJV
In these two scriptures, Christ unfolded His peace as one with power. He spoke these words to prepare the Disciples for His death.
In the first verse, we discover Jesus gives a wave of peace from God, not from the world. He defines divine peace as bringing tranquility to the heart and replacing fear with faith. Jesus spoke this after clarifying His unison with God (John 16:25-28).
The second passage shows us that Christ overcame the world, and He provides us with the Lord’s peace with this victory. This revelation unveils a mighty calmness amid the tribulations caused by a world separated from God.
Because of this peace, we rejoice in God’s gift of salvation. When Christ said these words, they preceded His promise of the Holy Spirit (John 14:26). Here, we see the Holy Spirit as a direct link between God and Jesus.
All true believers of Christ receive divine peace. Our ability to remain calm in trying times proves this holy peace. It’s not by accident that when faced with adversity, we find the strength to withstand challenging times.
Apostle Paul also reaffirmed this divine peace.
Paul shared:
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Romans 5:1, NKJV
Paul’s reassurance of divine peace parallels Jesus’s message. It’s faith in Jesus that justifies our peace with God. This incredible peacefulness with our Father leaves no doubt of His love for our salvation.
As shown above, divine peace comes through a personal relationship with Christ.
My Experience
Before God saved me, I had no inner peace. Conflicts with God and those around me showed an unsaved soul. I lived with a dead conscience, unable to resolve life’s problems.
Alcohol and drug abuse became my outlet to ease the spiritual suffering caused by my separation from God’s peace. However, this didn’t bring relief because alcohol and drugs didn’t stop the inner turmoil.
Besides my substance abuse addiction, defilement controlled my conduct (Matthew 15:18-19). I had no defense against my sinful nature. My disbelief in God, self-centeredness, resentment towards others, and sexual immorality continue to worsen. Life became unbearable, and I wanted to die.
It brings me great joy to share that peace with God emerges from Christ. I’m no longer bonded to the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21). Jesus replaced them with the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). This profound revelation motivates my desire to grow more Christ-like.
Summary
In conclusion, God’s peace comes from following Christ. And within this, peace is a love unlike any other. This glorious love of God shows us His passion to redeem us from the penalty of sin. Our Father’s astounding affection makes living worthwhile.
