Saved by grace and driven by faith is a significant part of God’s salvation gift. This extraordinary revelation of God’s desire to restore people into His favor is an exhilarating experience unlike any other (John 3:17). Receiving His compassion is something that the world can not match.
While returning home from work, I halted at a traffic light and glanced to my left. On the back window of a tow truck were those words: “Saved by grace: driven by faith.” This unexpected encounter with an inspirational message stirred something within me, compelling me to share God’s incredible love.
Saved By Grace
Salvation isn’t possible without God. Indeed, no one chooses salvation. No, this undeserving act comes from nothing we do but His love to redeem us from Adam and Eve’s disobedience to His commandment(Genesis 3). And it’s His grace that opens the door into His kingdom.
The term ‘grace,’ derived from the Greek word ‘charis, ‘holds a rich and profound meaning in the context of God’s actions. It encompasses favor, blessing, and kindness, all exemplified in His consistent demonstration of grace throughout human history and in the present day.
In John’s Gospel, he unveiled this:
And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
John 1:16-17, NKJV
As shown above, grace is a gift from God. He first shed His grace through Moses by unveiling His law. Then, through His New Covenant (Luke 22:20), He placed grace in the hands of Jesus. God made Christ the sole means by which He grants His favor to those He saves. And attached to His grace is the absolute truth of His existence.
Apostle Paul shared the power of God’s grace through the Holy Spirit.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9, ESV
As can be seen, God’s grace is filled with spiritual strength where, in our weakness, we discover the power to overcome troublesome circumstances. Paul shows us to use our spiritual deficiency as a way to show others the power of Christ. For this reason, His grace is sufficient.
Another example of God’s mighty grace is freedom from the bondage of sin.
For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. Romans 6:14, NKJV
With this in mind, through God’s grace, we can become free from the paralyzing grip of sin. This astonishing revelation proves that He is all-powerful. This doesn’t mean we are eradicated from transgression. A point often overlooked is that sin is still present in the life of a believer. However, through God’s favor, we are no longer dominated by its ability to separate us from Him.
Given these points, we understand that God’s grace is the start of salvation. For without His kindness, our lives would remain in spiritual darkness. This is but a small discussion on God’s grace. A more profound wisdom of His blessing lies in building a solid relationship with Christ.
Driven By Faith
Driven by faith emerges from God’s grace. Indeed, the moment He graces us, faith becomes our driving force. As a result of faith, our lives transform from one separated from God into one anchored in Christ. Faith allows us to build a more vital consciousness of God’s omnipotence.
Faith goes beyond a simplistic belief in God. It’s a conviction of Jesus’s sacrifice for salvation, where, in our innermost self, we know the Lord’s truth. This divine epiphany of God’s eternal salvation isn’t granted to everyone (Matthew 7:21-23). No, it’s given to those who, under all circumstances (joyful or troublesome), remain loyal to Jesus.
Christ said this about faith:
And He said to them, “Because of your meager faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”
Matthew 17:20, NASB
In this scripture, Jesus uncovers the quality of faith. He didn’t focus on the quantity of faith. Instead, Christ made it known that the smallest of faith unleashes God’s powerful ability to provide us with divine resolutions to impossible problems without His intervention.
Paul spoke these words:
For we walk by faith, not by sight.
2 Corinthians 5:7, NKJV
It’s easy to believe with our eyes. When Jesus walked on earth and performed miracles, those witnessing them believed He was from God (John 3:2). Yet when Christ spoke on eternal revelations, their disbelief emerged (John 3:3-8).
Even today, we see God’s handy work through His creations. He still demonstrates miracles through unexplainable testimonies of healing from incurable diseases, mental illness and incredible survival stories from life-threatening circumstances.
However, despite evidence to the contrary, some people are blinded by these incredible works of God. They refuse to credit God for these miraculous revelations.
Since God is a Spirit and Christ ascended back into heaven, our only option is to believe in unseeable spiritual truth. When we trust in Christ, God uses the Holy Spirit to unite our souls with Him. This divine interaction with the Holy Trinity draws us closer to Him.
This is a brief discussion of faith. The Bible offers ways to discover, obtain, and grow our faith in Christ. To become driven by faith, one must exert oneself into God’s truth.
Final Thoughts
As noted, being saved by grace and driven by faith comes from God. And once He reveals Himself to us, we must obey His commands. Each of our testimonies to this beautiful reality gives credence to His sovereignty. And the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) radiates God’s undeniable presence to others.
