Spreading Christ’s Gospel
Spreading Christ’s Gospel brings joy to discipleship. When God saved us and placed us in Christ, the door to discipleship opened. As the result of God’s salvation gift, we became a disciple of Christ.
This incredible opportunity gives us the strength to spread God’s Good News. And when we share this revelation with others, it fills our hearts with overwhelming spiritual bliss.
The Spirit of Discipleship
The spirit of discipleship begins with love and makes it enjoyable. Christ is our most outstanding example of love. We see His love at the cross. Our Messiah’s crucifixion shows His undeniable love for God and the redemption of sinners.
His love exceeded death. Jesus’s supernatural love is graceful, unwavering, and infinite.
Jesus said:
Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. (Matthew 10:37-38, ESV)
In these two verses, Christ shows us that the love acceptable in God’s eyes is the one we offer Jesus. Our love for Him must transcend beyond our love for family and friends.
Did you notice how He describes loving Him means picking up my cross? To enter the brotherhood of discipleship, I must deny myself and abide in His Deity.
My commitment to Jesus has to be my top priority.
Anything less than placing Him above everything in my life robs me of the whole fruits of discipleship. When I don’t put Him first, it hinders my effectiveness in spreading His Gospel.
Another characteristic of discipleship is humility.
Jesus is the essence of humbleness and makes this virtue attractive, worthwhile, and joyful. When I humble myself before God, He embraces me with love bringing my heart joy unlike any other. It motivates me to draw closer to His sovereignty.
When Christ walked on the earth, He showed humanity the pinnacle of meekness. Jesus served God and never took credit for His works. The four Gospels give testimony to this truth. Each of them recorded His humble spirit towards God. Christ defines one of the critical ingredients of discipleship as self-denial.
Jesus unveiled this truth:
And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. (Luke 9: 23-24, ESV)
Again, Christ referenced denying oneself and picking up one’s cross as a crucial and significant discipleship action. Selflessness shows others humility by taking the focus off of oneself and behaving with Christ-likeness. Under those circumstances, Jesus saves our lives.
As shown above, these are two of the many characteristics of discipleship. The New Testament fills itself with more qualities of what makes us a disciple of Jesus. It’s available to everyone who wants to learn.
Spreading Christ’s Gospel
One of the most notable honors of discipleship is spreading Jesus’s Gospel. God gives this Christian privilege to us to advance His kingdom. It’s pleasing to Christ when we give testimony to His truth.
We don’t have to look far to gain Christ’s vision of growing the kingdom.
Jesus spoke these words:
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20, ESV)
Christ spoke these three scriptures to His Disciples. Here the Messiah unfolded the blueprint for advancing God’s kingdom. Jesus tells us that God gave Him the ultimate authority on earth and in heaven, thus giving His disciples the strength to spread the Gospel. Christ grants God’s trusted servants the gift of baptism to help convert unbelievers. He reminds us that He is with us always.
Missionary work is a prime example of sharing Jesus’s Good News. Many churches plan trips to other countries to carry Christ’s Gospel. They assemble a team of pastors, elders, deacons, and other members. Their dedication to spreading God’s truth has converted many nonbelievers. It’s discipleship work filled with joy.
On an individual level, spreading Christ’s Gospel is a combination of living the example of a saved life (James 1:21-25) and sharing God’s New Covenant with others (Luke 22:20). The neat reality of spreading Jesus’s Gospel is that God places people He wants in our path and uses the Holy Spirit to teach them Jesus’s message of salvation. However, I must understand that God saves unbelievers, not me.
Apostle Paul tells us not to hold back on expressing our faith.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. (Romans 1:16, EVS)
As noted above, spreading Christ’s Gospel is a worthwhile experience of happiness. In my journey of spreading God’s word, the Holy Spirit enriches my soul with God’s love and leaves me with a passion for doing more kingdom work.
Final Thoughts
Given these points, we see how God makes us disciples of Jesus and how to spread the Gospel effectively. Our Father administers this divine benefit through the Holy Spirit. Without the Spirit of Truth, I won’t have the wisdom to show others the impact of salvation. The Great Commission (Matthew 22:14-20) sheds light on the Holy Trinity!
