The Value of Surrender

Surrender has a significant value to a Christian’s walk with Jesus. Once God saves a soul (Ephesians 2:8-9), from that point forward, surrender becomes a key ingredient in the recipe of salvation. It pleases God when we abandon our wills and submit to His commandments.

In the Western world, surrender isn’t cherished. No, this culture views it as a weakness. They anchor themselves in self-sufficiency, where personal accolades signify success. Their outlook on yielding to God isn’t favorable because they cannot see the value of surrender.

Surrendering to Christ

We can agree that surrendering to Christ is the greatest resource in our battle with spiritual warfare. For sure, relying on myself can’t supply me with supernatural strength to fight against the devil’s schemes. I’m powerless over Satan’s stronghold on governments, unsaved people, and other wicked institutions (Ephesians 6:12). But when I abandon myself to Jesus, the value of surrender possesses the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-11).

When Christ walked on the earth, He unfolded a blueprint for surrendering to Him.

Jesus said:

Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. (Luke 9:23-24, NKJV)

In these two scriptures, we discover Christ’s wisdom of humility. He commands me to walk away from my desires and embrace His words. The moment I obey this truth, I discover surrender’s absolute value. Jesus promises me that salvation’s security is in Him. I must surrender myself daily because every day has hidden circumstances. This is a remarkable revelation and one not to be taken lightly.

Surrendering to God

Another way Christ illustrates the spiritual worth of self-denial is by doing God’s will. He unveiled this reality in His Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7).

Christ spoke these words:

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. (Matthew 7:21, NKJV)

Our Savior didn’t hold back on showing that the way to heaven comes from doing the will of God. Here, we gain God’s insight into what it takes to be a kingdom dweller. Jesus heightens our Father’s will as an outright necessity for eternal life. And submitting to His will unlocks the mystery of His sovereignty.

One of the most extraordinary consciousness of surrender is the fruit of the Spirit (Ephesians 5:22-23). The Holy Spirit gives us the divine attributes required to live by God’s precepts in a world riddled with evilness. Surrendering to Christ unleashes the holiness of God’s Spirit. Here we find the divine discernment between God’s kingdom and the prince of darkness domain. In the Holy Spirit, we awaken to complete awareness of God’s presence.

Final Thoughts

As shown above, the value of surrender center itself on abiding in Christ. This is a brief discussion of the benefits of God’s salvation plan. God’s word has many other blessings for His chosen people. The unique value of surrender is becoming connected with the Holy Trinity.
