What comes to your mind when you think of God? The answer to the question of who God is takes on many meanings. There are a lot of different views of His nature. People who are of the world and not in His kingdom can’t fathom His omnipotence.
God the Creator
Only one creator of all we see exists, and He is the Bible’s God. This one true God isn’t found anywhere else (Genesis 1:1).
Scientists have tried to discount a one God creator and provide other reasons for humanity’s existence.
For example, Darwin’s theory of evolution leads people to believe that the development of human beings took millions of years. This outlook suggests the existence of humanity derived from apes. Many people accept this reasoning, and when confronted with God, they argue their point of view.
Another theory about the creation of humans is the Big Bang Theory. Some scientists believe a burst of energy emerged, thus creating the universe and everything in it. And again, when someone shares the God of the Bible, they double down on this explanation and refuse to accept His truth.
Besides these theories, some religions have multiple gods. They have a god for the sun, moon, stars, and many others. Here, we see people worshipping specific parts of creation instead of the Creator Himself.
God’s word is precise, clear, and absolute. He created the heavens and the earth in six days (Genesis 1:1-31). It didn’t take Him millions or billions of years. No, it took six days!
With this in mind, it’s unsurprising that many Christians accept the Gap Theory, which suggests a long period between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. This theory aligns with the worldview of the millions of years concept. In contrast, this outlook weakens faith because the essence of faith is not from sight (Hebrews 11:1-3).
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. (Genesis 1:31, NIV)
This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, (Genesis 2:4, NKJV)
As shown above, God is the sole creator.
The Spirit of God
One undeniable truth is God’s Spirit (John 4:24). Indeed, His sovereignty is spiritual. He is divine, and His holiness comes from His Spirit.
Jesus said:
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh provides no benefit; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit, and are life. (John 6:63, NASB)
In this verse, Christ unveiled to His disciples that God is the Spirit, the creator of life. Jesus shows us His Spirit through the words He spoke. In our generation, Jesus has already ascended back into heaven, and our consciousness of His Deity comes from the Holy Spirit (John 14:26).
The most extraordinary and profound reality of His Spirit is love. His love isn’t a feeling or emotion. No, it’s a supernatural awareness of His spiritual presence. There is nothing I can do to bring forth His love. God’s love doesn’t come from me but from His omnipresence.
It’s not by accident that we connect with God’s presence. For this reason, He anointed us with the Holy Spirit. The moment the Lord saves us, He places us in Christ and activates the Holy Spirit. This is why we can discern the Lord’s absolute truth.
You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. (Romans 8:9, ESV)
To have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us is a remarkable revelation. This gives proof of God’s spiritual nature. Not only does the Holy Spirit live in us, but also God and Christ are present. This unison with the Trinity gives us God’s armor (Ephesians 6:10-18). As a result of this epiphany, our assurance of eternal life with Him emerges (John 5:24).
Final Thoughts
By no means is this a complete illustration of God? Many other scriptures disclose His nature. Psalm 119 highlights many of His attributes. The fruit of the Spirit heightens His divine virtues (Galatians 5:22-23). As seen, God is the One and only One.
