Finding Peace in a Broken World

Finding peace in a world filled with evilness isn’t easy. I think you’ll agree with me when I say technology advancements heightens a chaotic society full of conflict. In fact, smart phones, social media and 24-hour newscast display an eagerness to report a global epidemic of wickedness. And this makes peace impossible.

Why is that?

The world rejects God.

Yes, most people live without Christ. They become entangled in a life of self-reliance trying to solve problems that stay unresolved without God’s intervention. Their destructive conduct exposes a life anchored in bitterness, hatred and resentment.

Believe me, I understand a life abandoned from Jesus isn’t peaceful. Before God saved me, I lived an unholy lifestyle. First, my agnostic belief used the world’s cruelty to disprove the Lord’s existence. I convinced myself God didn’t care for humans because innocent people became targets of evildoers. So, with a passion, I shared this outlook with others and many people rejected my rhetoric.

Besides my disbelief I became angry, hostile and spiteful towards others. My negative response to life circumstances led to alcohol and drug abuse. But alcohol and drugs didn’t relieve me from the emotional turmoil and left me in shambles. Alcoholism affected my health, mind and soul and ruined my life.

It brings me pleasure to share with you God delivered me from evil and placed me in Christ’s peace. This transformation experience I’ve discovered real serenity. And this spiritual tranquility prevails over the many tribulations facing me today. Because trials of life are temporary and through reliance on Christ they fade away and replaced with an incredible inner-peace.

What is Christ’s peace?

It’s an inner-calmness overtaking adversity. This incredible strength to move past my battle between good and evil with peaceful results comes from Christ. With this in mind, God’s peace is Christ and when I abide in Him, I experience the greatest peace God offers. Amazing, isn’t it?

Here’s the big secret in turning hardship into peace is perseverance. Remember, spiritual suffering is real and takes persistent faith in Christ to find serenity in the calamity. It’s not if God will release me from the disturbance but when it will occur. And waiting on Christ intercession involves patience, endurance and constant devotion.

How do I find Christ’s peace?

Here something we both can agree on is developing an active prayer life brings us a power beyond our own. This strength enables me to overcome my problems and experience a calm presence in times of distress. But my prayers must follow Christ’s blueprint on rightful praying. A point often overlooked when praying is how we approach God (Matthew 6:5-15).

The key to praying from the heart is honesty, humility and without holding reservations. The problem with selfish prayers is God doesn’t respond to demands. Instead, He is open to a humble heart willing to give Him glory, praise and thanks. Faith teaches us the Lord knows our hearts and to ask Him for self-centered petitions isn’t trusting His guidance. Yet, when we ask Him with a pure heart, He answers in mighty ways.

Another way of finding Christ’s peace is selfless service. It begins with serving God and Christ. Yes, one of our responsibility in salvation is to serve. We serve Christ through obeying God’s truth and serving Christ means living His message of eternal life. Once we become servants, then we extend this to others. This brings peace because our focus is on things above and not on our personal lives.

Selflessness is the essence of peace because it’s an act of humility. Unlike selfishness, giving without expectations connects us with God’s love and grace. This unity between selflessness and God’s will permeates a tranquil existence.

Given these points we understand finding peace in a broken world is possible through faith, trust and devotion. The bible is full of many scriptures showing how-to live-in peace. But the point is without Christ eternal peace stays elusive.

Have you found Jesus’ peace?
