The Spirit of Encouragement

Devotional Wednesday

We both can agree that the spirit of encouragement helps us persevere. Nothing is more comforting than to be inspired by another Christian. It’s not by accident that God uses other believers to guide me in troubled times. Our Father knows our spiritual needs and always sends a person to strengthen our faith.

This truth of Christian encouragement isn’t new. Apostle Paul spent his entire ministry encouraging Gentiles to stand firm on Christ’s words and grow closer to God. Disciple James emboldened his congregation to live by God’s word (James 1:21-22).

It isn’t easy holding onto encouragement in a world living in wickedness. Every day the news is full of evildoers. But, I must remind myself that Christ defeated evilness (John 16:33). When I anchor myself in Christ, God encourages me to enlarge my devotion.

Today’s Scripture:

As iron sharpens iron,
so one person sharpens another. (Proverbs 27:17, NIV)
